From a Texas border town facing a migrant crisis to the a conference of foreign real estate investors to the Saudi Arabian regime’s investment powwow on South Beach — Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is all over the place.
Except doing what he’s supposed to be doing, which is leading the city.
Suarez, whose delusional pipe dream of being president lasted five minutes, is still acting like a he wants to be the big boy on campus, playing on the national stage he covets so much.
He was in Hidalgo last week, invited by Americans For Prosperity, the Koch brothers political action committee, weighing in on the migrant crisis like he has any business doing that. He was there he said, to look at “what’s happening on the border, the dysfunction, all of the issues that are flowing from that dysfunction, that are impacting American cities.
“I know from my work as president of the Conference of Mayors, as a candidate for the presidency that cities as far north as New Hampshire are dealing with issues related to fentanyl, which we know is being imported through this border,” he said, although New Hampshire is a state.

“We know there are a tremendous amount of undocumented in our country. We don’t know who they are. We don’t know where they come from. We’ve heard many reports that many of these migrants are coming from places that are adversarial to the United States,” Suarez said. Does he mean Fox News?
The funniest thing about his self-posted video on the platform previously known as Twitter is that there are no migrants there at the migrant crisis. Just a bunch of reporters and tourists like him.
Then, later Suarez spoke at the 2024 Winter Conference of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate. At least that was in Miami. And more on brand. Selling Miami to the world is his sweet spot.
After that, Suarez spoke Friday at the Future Investment Initiative Priority Summit, a Miami Beach event sponsored by the government of Saudi Arabia, which is currently under investigation by the US. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs for using American assets to boost efforts to clean up the regime’s image. This is the same government that stands accused of arbitrary arrests, torture and political assassinations, like the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Any future interview with Alcalde Postalita should include a question about how he can so nonchalantly accept these human rights violations, especially since his family fled a dictatorship in Cuba.

Suarez used his mayoral office to organize and promote last year’s inaugural summit, which benefitted the firm he works for as well. The event is being investigated as part of the repressive regime’s PR push.
One might think Suarez would keep a low profile since the feds are investigating him not just for the Saudi work but also for his side gigs, especially his $10,000-a-month consulting job for developer Rishi Kapoor, whom he helped secure permits for his projects.

“Speaking at the FII Priority conference, I shared how Miami is a dynamic and vibrant city. And when it comes to sporting events, no one can match what we have to offer,” Suarez tweeted Sunday.
