Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago is a sore loser.
Three months after the April election, in which his chosen slate lost to two independent commission candidates, Lago is still being petty and vindictive with the victors. This week, he cropped them out of the photo he posted on Twitter from the Fourth of July celebration at The Biltmore Hotel.
“What an incredible turnout for the 4th of July festivities,” he posted with a series of photos, including one where he is on stage with Commissioners Rhonda Anderson and Kirk Menendez. What? Did he think we’d assume Commissioners Melissa Castro and Ariel Fernandez could not be bothered to attend?
Well, the proof is in the other posts. Both Fernandez and Miami-Dade Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera, who was also in the photo, posted the shot sans any cropping. See the circle in this photo below? That’s what was cropped out of Lago’s posted photo above.
Then, when Fernandez went to take his own selfie, it looks like Lago turned his back. Even Cabrera, who had also endorsed the Lago slate, smiled for the shot.
This is not the only time Ladra has noticed that Lago is a petty boy. He has consistently been unable to look at Castro in the eye at commission meetings. Watch him when he speaks to her. He looks at the audience, his papers, his nails, the ceiling, anything but Castro’s face. What is that about?
In his post, Lago went on and on about the “sacred holiday” that celebrates our freedom and “unwavering commitment to democracy.” But democracy didn’t give him what he wanted April 11, so now he pouts.
And he pouts well.

How much did Ariel pay you to write this?
You call yourself a reporter and are ‘so shocked Mayor Lago’s picture didn’t include Ariel and Melissa yet you never write about how; Ariel ran on correcting the problems of the past commission yet, here we are, months later and nothing has been done, how Ariel ran on getting rid of the City Manager yet, if he could do basic math he would have know that it was impossible for him to get the votes in the first commission meeting to achieve this goal which ended up blowing up in his face nor do you disclose who pays you to write these political hit pieces.
Wake up and realize Ariel Fernandez was elected by 4,000 of the 49,000 residents yet thinks he speaks for the constituents.

Agree but has there ever been a Hispanic Mayor in Miami who has not enriched themselves , family and friends while wiping their culo with us the ” little people ” ?
I’m in Doral and Fraga was elected due to the rest of them working strictly for developers .
She ran on this was going to stop and LOW and Behold she is another Developer owned Cuban Cosa Nostra working to change zoning laws for her Developer Masters .

Ladra’s coverage of this story is another chapter in what is becoming “Lago’s legacy”, which is looking more and more like Raul Valdes Fauli’s. Lago’s cropping out of two other commissioners is cold and calculated and beneath the office of the Mayor of Coral Gables. There’s enough division in government already. Lago should display more collegiality for the benefit of our City and the position he holds as Mayor. Thank you Ladra for your work. There’s still time for Lago to turn this around and I hope he does. WE ALL deserve better than this.

Ladra, you should report on the bigger issue. Report on how Mayor Vince Lago and Mayor Francis Suarez have been able to use their public position to enrich themselves. Both have been able to use their campaign donations to buy properties, boats, trips, etc. They both have been paid under the table deal by a crooked developer in Kapoor.
To those rejecting Ladra’s story, just think about the message he sends when he removes 2 of 3 commissioners on the nation’s birthday. He is a petty and vindictive soul and he shows it in ways big and small.

Lago will take residents calls and email them back within two hours always! No politician does that and will meet with you in person but yet you attack him because you don’t agree with him 100% of the time. What is up with that.

Ladra, what is this Junior High? The picture used by Mayor Lago is a close-up. The one with the other two commissioners is further back. You really need to get off Lago’s back. It is getting tiresome, immature, and tiresome. You are losing credibility. He is and has been a good mayor. Never perfect. I do not recall that among his promises to the city of coral gables perpetual perfection was one of them.

I thought this was supposed to be an award winning news website. fernandez is just using you to get revenge on all the jocks who picked on him in highschool. this guy is such a waste of space. Vince “Vinny” Lago confused no one running against him as some sort of massive voter endorsement. as the April elections showed, not the case. his behavior during meetings and the condescension he’s shown Melissa & Ariel really grates, an I’m only watching on Zoom, has to even worse in person. his true colors showing through. He wouldn’t win an election today, if anybody bothered to run (a big IF).
Mr.Lago is showing his true colors. No emotional maturity and people voted for him? Does he really have the best interest of the residents. I think not.
