I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Hillary Clinton, who
Ladra has absolutely no love for, is going to go down in the books as the Democratic Party nominee elected president with the most Republican votes in U.S. history.
Not because of people like me. Yeah, the self-admitted Marco Rubio fangirl is going to have to swallow hard and vote for this lying weasel in November, but I’m an independent voter with no party affiliation. So that means people think I’m a Democrat already.
No, it will be because of people like my mother and father and their friends. These are staunch Republicans, ultra conservative Cuban-American GOP loyalists who remember the good old Ronald Reagan days with longing and voted for Sen. Marco Rubio, who came in a distant embarrassing second in his home state of Florida. My godmother has never voted for a Democrat in her life. But they say they will vote for Hillary precisely because of Donald Trump.
They are the poster children of the #NeverTrump movement.
Ted Cruz might not get their vote either, but they can ignore him. They won’t bother to vote for anyone in that hypothetical matchup. They cannot, however, ignore Trump. If The Donald ends up on the ballot in November, they’re going with Hillary.
My mom! With Hillary! Only someone like Trump could do that! Shoot, dare I say they could vote for Obama if they had to, against Trump?
Okay, it’s a really unscientific poll. Or not even a poll, actually. But they are not alone. On Facebook, on twitter and on the radio shows, Republicans are saying they would rather vote for the state department liar than the business liar.
Exit polls show that 9 percent of GOP-registered voters in Michigan said
they would vote for Hillary over Trump. The number grew to 10 percent of the Republicans in Ohio. Not that it should come as a surprise, but more Republican women view Trump more negatively than positively, according to Gallup. And in a Washington Post/ABC News poll this month, Trump loses the women’s vote by 21 points.
Megan McArdle, a columnist at BloombergView.com, tried an interesting experiment. She asked die-hard Republicans to hit her up on Twitter if they were #NeverTrump and would vote for Hillary or Bernie Sanders — and to tell her why. She got a barrage of emails from everyone, from young and old, from Southern Baptists and evangelicals, from nurses and school teachers to soldiers in the military and people who worked in Republican administrations. And she shared them with us.
Some excerpts:
“I personally am not willing to sacrifice my country and more specifically the dignity of the office that represents it, just to make a point.”
“It’s not just that I don’t think he’s conservative. It’s that as president I think he’d be quite capable of doing anything, except governing reasonably well.”
“It may be true that the country I love and fought for has gone over the cliff and is willing to elect a narcissistic con-man as president, but I will never, under any circumstances, put my name to its death warrant.”
And those are some of the more mild ones.
So maybe Trump has divided the Republican Party, but he seems to have united the nation. Because I predict the biggest margin and largest crossover ever in 2016 for Hillary Clinton.

Voting for a write-in candidate is a waste of a vote. Even if you’re a Republican, you have to remember how close it was in Florida in 2000 — and how a few votes here decided the election for the entire country. We are an important swing state. The only way to keep Trump from being president is to vote for the other major party candidate on the ballot. Let people from all-red or all-blue states like Texas or Massachusetts make a statement with their vote. We control history here in Florida. It is up to us to elect a normal human being who doesn’t hate everyone who isn’t a non-Hispanic, white male.

I have never been a conspiracy theorist. However, I will continue to say that Trump is running so that Hillary will win. As much of a money and power-hungry person as Trump might be, he doesn’t need the scrutiny (and everything else that comes with it) as President. He is more free to do as he pleases as a businessman. If he doesn’t just quit at the Republican Convention, and he makes it to the November ballot, I say Hillary wins. Not what I want necessarily, but this year national politics appears to look much like South Florida politics. LOL
I spoke to a woman from a German television station who was covering the primary with her crew on Tuesday at a Miami Beach polling place. She said Germans were alarmed by the similarities between the rise of the Nazis and Donald Trump’s campaign — hate remarks, throwing people out of rallies, inciting violence — and I said many of us Americans were alarmed, also. It is chilling to contemplate a win by this man. We really cannot sit back and allow it to happen.
Seven month and 13 days still remain before Americans cast their votes by absentee, early voting and on the general election day. Before then, the FBI would have presented a very compelling criminal case to the United States Attorney General for submission to the Grand Jury, and from what has been “purposely leaked” thus far, the evidence against Mrs. Clinton seems quite damning. Remember: “Cuando el rio suena es porque piedras trae.” It is highly improbable Mr. Obama will soil his legacy by sitting on such a condemning criminal indictment. Still, for argument sake, let us suppose Mr. Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch will play politics with such political scandal; which doubtless will forever stain their legacies. The news leaks and accompanying protest resignations from FBI and Justice will endlessly sully their place in history. No, they will not sit on such bomb shell! Then what crossover . . . RINOS? Vote for Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi? Trump is an irrepressible “ID” that is my allusion to Sigmund Freud’s structural model of the psyche. A creation of the craven Congressional RINOS who lacked the fortitude to exercise their constitutionally granted authority under our Nation’s Equal but Separate powers; Trump is a reflection of most Americans’ frustration with the “fundamental transformation” imposed upon our Nation over the past seven years. After November 8, 2016, you might be proven correct Ladra and Trump might have lost by a landslide, but the question is to whom? And yet maybe not, he is drawing considerable numbers of disaffected democrats and independent voters; how else do we explain his success? Still as a registered Republican since October 1972, I will vote for Elmer J. Fudd before I vote for a liberal democrat! Hell in 2012 I voted for timorous Romney and in 2008 for the not so maverick McCain! In 2016, I will vote for my party’s nominee.
Now, how about getting back to the Miami Dade mayoral election? Who voters pick as our mayor for the next four years on August 30, will have a more significant impact, either negative or positive on our daily lives than H. Clinton or D. Trump!

Unfortunately, all true. I wish I could ask my parents their opinion, but they are both dead. However, in my opinion, I believe they would be shocked at the management of the Republican Party as well as the utter disregard and disrespect for the representative electorate that is exemplified by the Party of Trump.
My father had a friend for over 50 years, whom he disagreed with vehemently on political policy, but at end of the day cared more about each other and America than themselves. I guess non-PC to some people means a license to be indecent and self-serving. Alas, civilization, being civilized in dissent, is going down the tubes.
