Lobbyist David Custin is having a fundraiser for Miami Beach 
Commission candidate Betsy Perez.
Oh, it doesn’t say that on the invitation. The invitation is from Mayor Philip Levine and four of the sitting commissioners: Michael Grieco, Joy Malakoff and newly-elected Ricky Arriola and John Aleman.
All five of them had Custin as their campaign consultant. He also runs Perez’s campaign.
Commissioner Micky Steinberg, the only one not on the host list, is also the only one who did not hire Custin to run her campaign.
Perez came in number two Tuesday, with 25.5 percent of the vote. She’s headed for a runoff against Kristen Rosen Gonzalez, an independent candidate who Custin threatened to pull all stops against and who got 28 percent.
The fundraiser starts at 6 p.m. Monday at Lucali Restaurant & Lounge, 1930 Bay Rd.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll find other Custin clients there, like State Reps. Bryan Avila and Jose Oliva or former State Rep. Eddy Gonzalez.
Meanwhile, Rosen Gonzalez has a fundraiser of her own at exactly the same time Monday at the home of Carla Probus.
That host committee includes Miami-Dade Commissioner Xavier Suarez, Miami Beach Commissioner Ed Tobin, former Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower and former Miami Beach Commissioners Michael Gongora and Jorge Exposito, as well as a few Beach activists and Daniel Ciraldo, the assistant to failed mayoral candidate David Wieder.
There won’t be any Custin clients there.

The Miami Herald just endorsed Kristen Rosen Gonzalez with these words: “Pérez, a friend of Mayor Levine, was one of three candidates favored by the mayor and shares a campaign consultant with him.”

To address the unending cycle of dismal voter turnout that plagues Miami Beach elections, it’s time for the city to consider moving these elections to presidential election years. Enough said.
Sorry to blog twice on the same subject nut kristen rosen gonzalez cellphone voice mail box is full so you cant get details about the fundraiser n a ra king member of the mdpl with assets in the millions just told me hell vote for her but not give or go, and yes he sat on a city board because the mayor supported him! Ill say it again n again the Beach people r selfish n cowardly n sell out to a rich guy like levine with no qualms and ditch their real friends like matti bower jorge gonzalez roberto datorre. Yes n me be vwcause greed is god on miami beach

Ok how many activists are going to contribute to kristen rosen gonzalez who the support verbally? How many MDPL activists n members witb non profit jobs or political appointments are going to put their names n dollars on the line for their candidate? Remember how Matti Bower after decades working for nothing helped the Hispanic Community Center Rebbecca Towers and the MDPL and the Miami Beach Community Development Corp get subsidized housing and then the Hispanics from their subsidized housing units took Levines wining n dining and voted for Joy Malamoff who opposed subsidizex housing on the Beach? You watch n see if the George Nearys Herb Sosas show up or bring friends n their contributions?
Yes, more proof … if any is needed … that there was never “a slate”!
And did you see the mayor’s insulting comments about the “tiny minority” who always yells and screams and, oh, yes, got him into office the first time?
