Both Sweetwater Mayor Manny Marono and Miami Lakes Mayor Michael “Muscles” Pizzi — busted earlier this month in an FBI bribery sting — have asked to have today’s arraignment reset to Sept. 20.
And people who know about this stuff think that means that they are ready to cooperate in order to have charges reduced and/or avoid a big trial.
The two lobbyists arrested a day later in the same scheme — Marono’s business partner and former chief of staff Jorge Forte and Becker & Poliakoff’s Richard Candia — apparently also filed papers to postponed.
All four men were slapped with federal charges of bribery and extortion after they conspired in unrelated cases to participate in the same bogus scheme wherein they would get kickbacks from a fake firm that would get them federal grant monies for job creation.
All four, authorities said, knew that they were involved in an illegal fake scam.
Who knows what else they knew?
Now, it looks like we have to wait another three weeks plus to find out.
