In addition to the candidates, there are always other people, groups, institutions that win — or lose — in every single election. Without further ado, here are the most obvious winners and losers from Tuesday’s Miami-Dade primary.
Winners:
Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez and, by extension, Gov. Ron DeSantis. These two put a lot of muscle and money behind two school board candidates in an effort to drive the message: You are either with me or I will run someone against you. The dynamic duo recruited both Roberto Alonso in District 4 and Monica Colucci in District 8, who unseated 24-year veteran Marta Perez, who everyone thought would die on the school board. Nuñez, who took Colucci by the hand everywhere, should be feeling very proud of herself for taking Marta down. It’s probably the single most important political thing she has done in her whole career. Felicidades, chica. She is now a queen maker.

Donald Trump keeps pickin’ them. Of the two Miami-Dade county commission candidates the former president actually endorsed, one was elected outright Tuesday and the other heads to a runoff. Doral Mayor J.C. Bermudez beat Sweetwater reject Sophia Lacayo in District 12 and Kevin Marino Cabrera heads into a November runoff against Jorge Fors, Jr. This way, he has two votes already for the redevelopment of his Doral resort.

People who contributed to the campaign to elect Anthony Rodriguez should be in a good mood today. Between his campaign account and his political action committee, the state rep — who won outright a four-way race to replace Javier Souto in District 10 — amassed more than $2 million in contributions. These investors will now have someone on the dais who owes them their attention, at the very least. And those who gave big — you know who you are — are smiling extra wide this morning.
Losers:
Miami City Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla was not on the ballot, but his baby brother was and The Dean worked hard to get him elected. He even lent Renier Diaz de la Portilla his city staff for the campaign. Maybe he should let someone else try since this is the fourth time Renier Diaz de la Portilla loses a race. It also doesn’t bode well for ADLP’s own re-election next year — or his potential bid for mayor in 2024 — does it?

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party lost in these non-partisan races. Not only did the sole Democrat they were helping, Miami Springs Councilman Victor Vazquez in the District 6 race, come in third. But now the state GOP has taken over the local school board.

Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago really stepped in it when he endorsed Baby DLP in the judicial race. He just should have stayed out of it. Lago never called Ladra back to explain why he would go out on a limb and back such an unworthy and unethical candidate. But las malas lenguas say it was to gain favor with big brother Alex, either for himself or for his own brother, lobbyist Carlos Lago, who has items before the city of Miami. Vince Lago has lost credibility for nothing now.
Ladra is sure that there are more winners and losers that have slipped my mind. Please feel free to add your suggestions in the comments.

Ken Doll Russell votes YES to demolish a public park. Taddeo hammers him with this vote during a public debate. Taddeo beats Russell by 41 points. Anyone taking notes?
Selfie Boy Ken Russell also lost. In fact, Selfie Boy lost by 41 points to a woman. Boom.
Vince Lago and his lobbyist brother Carlos Lagos are ruining Miami-Dade County… How could anyone endorse creepo Renier? More plots to help developers pave every square inch of South Florida…
Big Winner: Annette Taddeo. She has a great chance to flip the seat from Ms. Maria Elvira who has done nothing while in Congress.
County Commission District 2 residents will be big losers if they choose Philippe Bien-Aime over Marleine Bastien in November’s run-off. While I can think of two other candidates in that race who would have been a better choice than either one, Bastien already has proven she can be of service to the community and will definitely step up if she wins.
Bien-Aime, on the other hand, will always be a total loser even if he does win the big prize.
His personal life is a hot mess. He is a verified sexual predator, has a track record of evictions and foreclosures in his many failed businesses, had to be sued for paternity to acknowledge that he was, in fact, the father of his oldest child, and is not legally wed to the woman he claims is his wife. In fact, there is no record that he’s even divorced from the woman he married years ago in a green card “wedding,” who happens to be living with the man that Philippe’s pretend “wife” was also married to at the time. Can you follow that bouncing ball?
Even worse, Philippe Bien-Aime is literally in the pocket of lobbyists and developers, who donated tens of thousands of dollars to his campaign and his PAC because they know that he is nothing but a puppet and that he will vote on any and every project they bring to the table no questions asked. Philippe will have no qualms voting to move the UDB and destroy the Everglades if that’s what his generous benefactors tell him to do.
He also hates cats and would kick puppies to the curb.
So, yeah, if D2 voters are stupid enough to vote for this fraud, they get the government they deserve.
It’s a brighter day in Miami-Dade County with Baby DLP’s loss. Next body down should be Alex’s. The guy is impresentable. And Lago has lost my vote in the next mayoral election. Lost his credibility supporting a natural-born loser like RDLP. Now, live with the consequences.
Alex Diaz De La Portilla and his witless brother is both scum. So glad they lost. So Francis Suarez endorsed Fredo too? More proof Suarez has no morals. What about Selfie Boy Ken Russell? That creep lost by 41 points? Jorge Mas and his vendors and contractors are smiling BECAUSE Selfie Boy already voted to demolish Melreese Park – TWICE. And Selfie Boy was the crucial swing vote with Joe Carollo, Alex DLP and Keon 2.0 Christine King. Voters were paying attention and they kicked Selfie Boy to the curb.
Lago has certainly lost a ton of credibility and respect with this Gables resident.
Thank you for important information.
