The first female and first Jewish mayor of Miami-Dade County will deliver her first State of the County address Friday morning without a live audience, thanks to COVID19, which promises to be the central theme of her speech.

La Alcaldesa Daniella Levine Cava will present the annual report on the county’s status and goals virtually, on the county’s webcast, Miami-Dade TV, and social media platforms, so it doesn’t become a super spreader event.

“In previous years, we gathered in person to celebrate the achievements of our community and the year ahead,” Levine Cava said in a statement.

“We are in unprecedented times, and our virtual format reflects the unique challenges of this moment and gives me an opportunity to speak directly with you, our community, about how we will get through this time of crisis and build back stronger,” she said.

According to the Florida Department of Health COVID dashboard, Miami-Dade has the highest number of cases in the state, with 366,127 reported as of Thursday. That includes more than 10,500 hospitalizations and at least 4,797 deaths.

These numbers and “unprecedented times” indicate that COVID and the county’s response is going to be the main topic. Naturally, Ladra expects the forever issues like transportation and housing to be touched upon.

A 20-second video “promo” on YouTube says nothing and a request for a preview went unanswered.

The SOTC speech begins at 9 a.m. Friday. Tune in via the county’s website here.

  1. Let me add that flights going back and forth from most if not all of Latin America have been going on now from some months .

You need a negative virus test result when you return . A negative test result that in many countries can be bought .

Even a legitimate test doesn’t mean that hours before you board your flight , you did not get the virus in that span of time plus think now you only need negative test results 2 days before departing.

Many countries in Latin America have a mandatory mask mandate on paper but never enforced with virus counts that are through the roof .

I know people here in Doral which have gone to weddings in last couple months , visit family , etc in other countries and no one had masks .
One country in particular ( not Venezuela nor Cuba) .

Miami Politicians know this but NO WAY they are going to utter a word about stopping flights .

So another problem for Miami .

  2. ” Miami-Dade has the highest number of cases in the state, with 366,127 reported as of Thursday. That includes more than 10,500 hospitalizations and at least 4,797 deaths.”

Miami has the highest concentration of people in the state including apartment buildings .

Miami might actually have the best adherence to wearing masks in the entire state as far as businesses and the ” street ” goes .

Both my cousins from Westchester had the virus and one twice in think roughly 6 months or bit more and they are sure it was in Key West hanging out outside of some pub in big groups with no one wearing masks but here they wear the mask on the street but not outside Miami .

This is why I am against closing things up as people simply head outside of Miami , the curfew which interestingly is still in place is not enforced so that is just a silly farce .

I’m in a little gated community in Doral and in the community itself maybe a handful of us wear the mask when we go get our mail ( the mail here is left in like a locker we have key for at a mail house ) , you see lots of people without masks chatting it up like there is no virus .

Two elderly people I somewhat knew died months ago and I do not know for sure how they got the virus but on weekends I would see them now and then walking like in a big group for exercise and one I would see once in a while go get his mail without a mask as plenty hung out there and chatted .

I told one it might be a good idea to wear the mask to go get his mail and more or less he told me to go ” beep ” myself and who was I to lecture him in Spanish but I was sorry to hear he passed away .

I would wager the virus spreads via building apartments as many do not wear mask inside be it elevators or lobby , gated communities and illegal clubs still hoping in Hialeah but as far as the ” street ” most here wear the mask so at least that protects us.

I might add and this is just my own speculation that the virus might be a bit higher in other parts of Florida then they are saying as tourism is still a big part of the state and though this sounds rather MAGA of me , not as high in Miami as hospitals are saying .

Both my sisters live in California and they had a long shut down which was enforced yet even then the virus did sky rocket 7 or so months later after the shut down but like here it is in high population areas and plenty there are not wearing the mask at all every where there are outside gatherings which includes the California parties.

I would normally not be to concerned about catching it but due to work and I drop off weekly novella treats for my grandmother ( who I just got her first vaccine ) who lives with my aunt/uncle I take serious precautions .
