Former State Rep. and Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner has had her battles on the dais. And now that she is a candidate for county commission in District 7, someone wants to remind us of how rude she can be and the many times she has shut down and insulted residents.
A 10-minute montage of video clips from multiple meetings during her reign of terror — she was mayor from 2008 to 2016 — shows Lerner either actually being or being accused of becoming hostile, disrespectful, dismissive, intimidating, and quick to interrupt, vilify and talk down to what she calls “angry, nasty” residents with legitimate concerns about things like dangerous intersections and over-programming at Pinecrest Gardens.
“Haughty, aloof and all-knowing,” says one of the Village council members to describe her. And those are the good words.
There’s a couple of choice shots of classic Cindy in true form:
- “If you open your mouth one more time!”
- “You are out of order,” she yells several times, banging that gavel so hard it the dais might break.
- “You can be escorted out.”
- “Sit down! I’m in the middle of a conversation here and the way you present yourself is offensive!”
- “Okay.”
- “Ooookaaaay.”
- “Let me finish!”
- On changing the agenda without a majority vote: “I’ve been doing it all night and we’re going to do it the way I call it.”
- “Do not interrupt me when I’m calling the agenda,” she yells.
- “So if you don’t like the way I talk to you or anybody else, let’s have it out in the back room.”
- “I’m not putting up with this kind of shit!”
Lerner rolls her eyes, crosses her arms, slams her fists on the dais and huffs and puffs while people are speaking. She berates a woman in front of her 9-year-old child. In one clip, a resident asks her “to stop making faces at me,” and Lerner responds with a laugh. “I guess I can’t stop,” she says, like some mafia boss lady.
The faces on the other council members are priceless.
When she doesn’t like what someone is saying, she just adjourns the meeting. Which provides her with more opportunities to bang that gavel that she loves.
One can’t help but wonder if she would get away with the same abrasive behavior at the county.

Lerner is running to replace Commissioner Xavier Suarez, who is termed out and running for mayor, but she’s acting like she’s running to replace Commissioner Esteban Bovo, who is also famous for shutting everyone down. Also running in District 7: former Miami-Dade School Board Member and mayoral candidate Raquel Regalado, former police officer Rafael “Ralph” Suarez and Kendall activist Michael Rosenberg.
The video on YouTube was put up two weeks ago by the Vote NO to Cindy Lerner channel, which has five subscribers. It’s been seen only 250-some times. A shorter version just under four minutes has more than 3,000 views.
You know they were posted by Rosenberg or his supporters because Rita Schwartz, the co-founder with him of the Pets’ Trust Initiative, also posted on both videos the same day they were posted.
“This is exactly the kind of person we DON’T want as an elected official! She doesn’t listen to the people and is extremely rude!!! There is another choice,” Schwartz wrote. “Vote Michael Rosenberg he will listen to the people!”
But somehow Ladra doesn’t think she put that together by herself. Someone has been collecting these clips or these dates and putting this together for a while.
While it would be nice to know who was behind the production of that piece, this was apparently the right time to release it as voters should remember what they might get if they vote for Lerner in August.
And they should not put up with that kind of shit.
