Raquel Regalado’s drops 1st mailer — a family holiday hello

Coming this week to some mailboxes near you: A holiday greeting from Miami-Dade Regalado kids mailerSchool Board Member Raquel Regalado.

But you can bet that it won’t be sent to just the voters in her school district as this becomes the first 2016 mayoral mailer in Regalado’s bid to unseat incumbent Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

Sure, there have been radio spots hailing Gimenez and door hangers left by the his walkers at homes in Little Havana, of all places. But the first mailer to drop lands in mailboxes this week, courtesy of Regalado.

And she didn’t sit her kids and herself in front of a Christmas tree. She didn’t put reindeer antlers and elf ears on their heads. Santa is nowhere in sight. Instead, Raquelita and her kids — Sebastian, 10, and Isabela, 12 — dressed in casual business attire and matching ties and stood before some of the murals found on the streets of Wynwood.

It’s got an artsy, modern feel and Regalado told Ladra that she wanted the mailer — a version of which will be published in an ad in Community Newspapers — to show, in fact, how different she is from the establishment and the current mayor.

“The ad and mailer reflects the style of my campaign which will be nontraditional. Regalado kids mailer holidayMy disdain for ‘the same old same old,'” she told Ladra. “‘The way things are always done’ does not just apply to campaign materials but is at the very core of why I’m running for Mayor. I believe that the mayor of Miami-Dade County should represent and respond to our vibrant community and that is what we will be communicating from now till August 30, 2016.”

And while there are festively-wrapped gifts used as props in the photo collage and a “Happy Holidays” line in green and red font, the real message — paid for through her Serving Miamians PAC — is about how she represents change and a new direction in county government.

“Are you excited about 2016 Miami-Dade County,” it asks in a headline.

“This holiday season our family is more excited than ever because 2016 will chart the course for generations to come. We can feel the energy all around our great and diverse community as residents of Miami-Dade look forward to a change. This new year change is coming. And today our family wishes your family happy holidays and a New Year filled with hope, love, joy and prosperity.”

And, don’t forget, change.

  1. I received Raquel’s mailer yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with its message. Yes, she IS a breath of fresh air! (And do not paint her with the same brush as her father. That’s highly unfair.) Thus far I support everything I’ve heard her say that she stands for, including funding The Pet’s Trust in the first 100 days of her administration, which 500,000 of us voted on and passed in 2012 that our current mayor and his band of henchmen refuse to do. *(Other than Commissioners Suarez and Levine-Cava who actually listen to voters.) Instead they continue to consciously murder thousands and thousands of innocent dogs, cats, kittens and puppies in our horrific high kill animal ‘shelter’ which had they funded The Pet’s Trust (like the Children’s Trust) would provide community wide education and low to no cost high volume spay/neuter clinics to income qualified folks thus stopping the pet overpopulation problem at its roots. Instead, they solve it by killing live sentient companion animals with the emotional and cognitive capacities of a 2-3 year old child. This is leadership? This is humane? This is listening to your constituents? Nothing in their budgets have we voted on BUT the Pet’s Trust and still they refuse to listen to us. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS IN 2016 I say. If a 3rd person enters the race my vote will be between that person and Raquel based upon who I feel has the VOTERS interest at heart vs. their own. Thus far, Raquel is who I’m voting for!

  2. Gimenez’s support on the Beach is as real as Jim Deland”s fake name n illegal lobbying under his real discredited name

    • Anyone unwilling to disclose ‘who’ they really are lacks credibility. They’re just as Jerry Jeff Walker’s lyrics went: ‘Pissin’ in the wind!’

  3. Alicia:

You are absolutely wrong! Raquelita is just as corrupt as her father and Mayor Gimenez. I am hoping for a third candidate. Tomas Regalado is a dictator as a Mayor and has made the City of Miami his fiefdom.

  4. Ms Regalado’s entry into the 2016 Mayoral campaign is a breath of fresh air. Our community needs to move forward and look to our future with hope and excitement- two things totally missing in the current mayor.
She brings new ideas and inspiration and, imagine that – VISION!!! – as well as a promise of respect towards the voters!
I’m IN!!! – and definitely believe that Miami Dade County’s “Future begins August 2016”!!!

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

  5. Some prominent Hispanics on Miami Beach are not only lunching with Miss Regalalo but are giving her checks. It appears County Mayor Giminez may have trouble with Beach voters.
