Legendary crooner Pat Boone, who is now an advocate for the senior citizen agenda, has sent Congressional candidate Carlos “Crybaby” Curbelo a Love Letter in the Sound, of sorts.
Yes, all-American Pat Freaking Boone is getting involved in this heated race.
Boone on Thursday recorded a message to voters on behalf of Curbelo’s campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia in District 26 (West Dade to the Keys), according to the Before It’s News website. The actor, entertainer and host of several early variety shows — who often wears an American flag shirt — made the recording today in his capacity as spokesman for the national non-partisan senior citizen group, the 60 Plus Association, which has more than 7.2 million senior supporters nationally. Among them are 16,000 who live in the district.
The recording, which we imagine will be a robocall pumped to some 16,000 voters, at least, goes like:
“Hello Friend. This is Pat Boone. Yes, the Love Letters in the Sand guy.
I’m still singing at concerts, but today I’m calling on behalf of the 60 Plus Association to sing the praises of Carlos Curbelo for Congress.
We need strong leaders in Washington like Carlos Curbelo, who understands that Obamacare hurts seniors by cutting Medicare.
Carlos Curbelo will be a champion for seniors, fighting to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, and stop the runaway deficit spending that threatens these vital programs.
Friends, this election is too important to sit out. So please join me, Pat Boone, in supporting a leader who stands strong for seniors and bringing trust back to Washington, Carlos Curbelo for Congress.
Thank you and God Bless.
Who wants to guess which voters were targeted with that call? Yeah, the 60 or 65 plus universe. But why Pat Boone? Pat freaking Boone? Really? Pat Boone is like 80. I know that he’s sold over 45 million albums, had 38 Top 40 hits and appeared in more than 12 Hollywood movies. But Pat Boone?
Boone, the original clean cut American Boy — the kind your parents would have let you got have a milkshake with in the 50s — is actually quite politically active and the 60 Plus Association has made statements against Charlie Crist in challenge to Gov. Rick Scott and against President Barack Obama, who Boone called a “Marxist” in March of last year.
It’s not that he’s, like, 80. It’s that this is District 26, where the Latino vote is the majority and where the largest concentration of Colombian-American voters in the U.S. are registered?
I can hear my friend’s abuela now. “¿Quien es Pabún, m’ija?
What? Was Willy Chirino too busy doing another Humana commercial?
