With a little more than a week before the Nov. 5 election, former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell‘s campaign has launched not one, not two, but three new TV ads against Sen. Rick Scott and his “toxic agenda” in what some call one of the closest watched and most competitive races in the country.
It’s part of a huge, 8-figure media buy in the Sunshine State.
The first new TV ad, launched last week, holds Scott accountable for committing the largest Medicare fraud in U.S. history and then writing the plan to end Social Security and Medicare for the very seniors he defrauded. The ad is part of an ongoing eight-figure buy placed by Debbie for Florida.
“Rick Scott is a thief. Un ladrón. He stole from seniors, committing the biggest Medicare fraud ever. I’m Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. If you or I did that, we’d be in jail. But Rick Scott is in the U.S. Senate. He cut a deal to let insurance companies raise rates and deny claims. And wrote the plan to end Social Security, raise your taxes, and ban abortion. Rick Scott is corrupt.
So if you want change, let’s change him. That’s why I approve this message.
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is on a roll to rollover Rick Scott for Florida Senate
“Rick Scott is a thief who stole $1.7 billion from seniors in the largest Medicare fraud in our nation’s history,” Mucarsel-Powell said in a statement. “Now, he’s the wealthiest member of the Senate and has done absolutely nothing to improve the lives of Florida families. Worse, he wrote the plan to end Social Security and Medicare, raise taxes on the middle class, and pass a national abortion ban.
“We deserve a senator who will protect Social Security and Medicare, lower costs, and defend our fundamental freedoms. I will be that Senator, and while Rick Scott’s a fraud who fights only for himself, I will be a fighter for every Floridian.”
On Monday, the Debbie for Florida campaign released two new TV ads about Scott’s penchant for putting his personal extremism above his constituents’ safety. She has been hitting him on his stance on reproductive rights since the beginning of the race.
Rick Scott has one of the most extreme positions on abortion.
He signed a law to ban abortion even if a woman is raped.
I’m Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
To protect your freedom, we have to stop Rick Scott.
That’s why I approve this message.
She has the best disclaimers.
“Rick Scott has stolen opportunities and freedoms from Floridians for too long,” Mucarsel-Powell said in a statement. “While he has made over $100 million in office, he sparked Florida’s insurance crisis and signed laws that stripped Floridians of their fundamental rights.
“Floridians know they can’t afford another six years of Rick Scott, which is why they’ll retire him this November.”

A new poll by the University of North Florida has the former congresswoman in a near tie with the senator (when you include the “leaning to” answers), with 49% indicating they would choose Scott and 46% saying their pick is Mucarsel-Powell, who will campaign in Tallahassee Monday.
One percent of respondents said they would vote for someone else, and 4% were undecided.
The same poll had former president Donald Trump with 10 points over Vice President Kamala Harris.
“At just three percentage points, Rick Scott’s lead is significantly narrower than Trump’s, similar to what we saw back in July,” said Michael Binder, professor of political science and faculty director of the university’s Public Opinion Research Lab. “Much like the rest of the country, Trump is running notably ahead of senate candidates in the same state.”
