The most interesting thing that happened at the Miami-Dade County Commission meeting Tuesday — besides a little fight over a tiny parcel of vacant land in Palmetto Bay (more on that later) — was the debate over who has the better head of hair: Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez or Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera.
“The guy who buys gel by the ton is talking about the guy who buys hair dye by the ton,” said Chairman Oliver Gilbert, about Cabrera and Rodriguez, respectively.
Cabrera, who had earlier gotten his colleagues to approve a study on reducing the speed limit on residential streets to 25 MPH, started it.
“I think it’s important we recognize the vice chair’s new hair tone,” Cabrera said. And, actually, Ladra had already noticed how nice it looked Tuesday. But Ladra is partial to the salt and pepper style.
“It looks like you put in a little bit of hair dye over the weekend,” Cabrera quipped.
“That is so unfair. You’re just jealous,” Rodriguez said.
“For the record, do you dye your hair,” Cabrera asked. Gasp! You don’t ask that in public!
“For the record, it might be dyed,” Rodriguez said. “I still have the best hair Commissioner Cabrera.”
Laughter erupted while Gilbert tried to redirect the conversation back to the last items on the agenda. But Commissioner Raquel Regalado would have none of it.
She and Rodriguez went horseback riding on Monday at a non-profit called Whispering Manes Therapeutic Riding Center (Whispering MANES!) for an Autism Acceptance Month event, Regalado said. “So it could have been that. “Maybe you should horseback ride. Maybe it will help your hair.” But was she talking to Gilbert? Or Cabrera?
“Clearly something happened yesterday,” said Regalado, sporting a streak of pink in her own locks.
For the record, it’s a hard choice to make. Both Rodriguez and Cabrera have what some might consider good hair. It might be the best thing about each of them. But why stop with them? If we include every man on the dais in this contest — you have to automatically eliminate Gilbert and Commissioners JC Bermudez, Keon Hardemon and Kionne McGhee for, well, lack thereof — then Sen. Rene Garcia and Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez are in the running.
The four of them, who posted a video on social media when they voted in the Republican primary, could be founders of the Hair Club for Men of Miami-Dade.
