Miami City Commissioner Frank Carollo jumped into the race Friday — finally turning in his paperwork for re-election to his seat and ending any speculation that he might run for mayor, too. Ladra guesses the fierce battle brewing between Mayor Tomas Regalado and Commissioner Francis Suarez, who wants to be mayor so bad he can’t wait, seemed like too much trouble to get into.
Carollo will face what is arguably a much easier, yet not easy, challenge from Alex Dominguez, a young medical salesman who lost the Democratic primary last August to Rep. Jose Javier Rodriguez, who eventually was elected to House District 112. Dominguez had those cute little signs with the brooms on them and some catch phrase like “Let’s sweep the house clean!” Get it? House? As in House of Representatives. Okay, maybe it’s too cute.
He also seems a bit too eager, as he filed to run for the city office a month after that state loss, in September.
This rounds out all the races in Miami, making for a fun year in the Magic City.
