Is Ladra the only suspicious and jaded soul who thinks that Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos “Cry Wolf” Gimenez scheduled a budget town hall meeting on Election Night on purpose? You know? So nobody would show up?
The fourth stop on the mayor’s “Best Case/Worst Case Scenario” budget tour begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Palmetto Bay Commission Chambers, 9705 East Hibiscus Street.
This is where residents and taxpaying property owners have a chance to ask the mayor about his budget priorities and share their concerns about his budget priorities. Even though things keep changing and last we heard, he suddenly doesn’t need to extend the sacrifices made by employees and has lowered the number of police layoffs, which I hear will eventually be none (more on that later).
Some think he’s taking this recall threat very seriously.
Michael Hernandez, the mayor’s spokesman, said there have been about 50 people attending the three previous town halls and that the first two ended about an hour earlier than expected.
Maybe it will be over in an hour and we can still go watch the election results somewhere. But maybe it won’t be.
Ladra will see you Thursday at the West Dade Regional library, Mr. Mayor. The last town hall is next Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the North Dade Regional Library in Miami Gardens.
