It’s that awkward time of year between Thanksgiving and Christmas when politicians find its too late to give away turkeys and too early to distribute holiday gift baskets or toys to needy families.
So let’s pass around some fresh Florida produce.
Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam will visit two senior centers in Miami-Dade this week to remind people that agriculture is the second largest industry in the State of Florida and that we are known throughout the country as “winter’s salad bowl” because of the many fruits and vegetables that grow here year round.
And what better way to promote that than by giving some old people a bunch of oranges and zucchini, yellow squash, cucumber, bell pepper and avocado?
Putnam — a former state rep who is getting ready to run for some real office, mark my words — will go first to the Eugenia de Hostos Community Center in Wynwood at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday and Villa Aida, a housing complex in Hialeah, at 11 a.m. Thursday.
I know what everyone is thinking and I thought it, too: What’s he doing in between? Someone ought to take him for un batido de mamey at El Palacio de los Jugos after he tours the equestrian complex at Tropical Park with Miami-Dade Commissioner Javier Souto this afternoon.
