City of Miami Commissioners on Thursday voted to add a plaque behind them that says “In God We Trust.”
Like that’s gonna help the cesspool of corruption and abuse of power that is City Hall.
The ones we can’t trust on the city commission are the city commissioners. Placing a sign about trusting in God is not going to transfer to them. In fact, God might get downright pissed off. He doesn’t need these hangers on.
Miami City Hall is just not a place to invoke Her Holiness.

Oh, Ladra, some will say. This might help guide our electeds in the right direction. All they have to do is look up and realize that we have put our trust in them, like we put our trust in God. So many people spoke in support of this, like it really makes a difference.
This was Commissioner Manolo Reyes‘ idea. And the reasons given?
“In God we Trust” has been the national motto of the United States of America (“United States” or “U.S.”) since 1956. It appears over the entrance to the U.S. Senate Chamber and above the Speaker’s rostrum in the U.S. House. It was adopted by the Florida Legislature as part of the state’s official seal in 1868 and has been the official motto of the state since 2006.

But for a seat of government, we don’t want to trust in God. We want to trust in the people making decisions for us. And in Miami, we don’t.
We would be better served by the motto of the state of Kansas: “Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain.”
No, not here. Here, we’re just gonna trust in God. Let the humans run take our liberties and rights.
