Martin Zilber complains about election in crybaby letter to editor — from Paris

Did anybody see Martin Zilber‘s letter to the editor in Tuesday’s Miami Herald? It proves he is delusional.

Zilber, the disgraced former Miami-Dade Circuit judge who resigned after an ethics investigation found he mistreated staff and stole $30,000 from taxpayers playing hooky, lost the special election to fill the seat in Miami’s District 2, where Ken Russell resigned to run for Congress (and lost the primary). He came in fourth in a race where the buzz was ABZ, or Anyone But Zilber.

And then he quickly flew to Paris for a “getaway.” Nice place to lick your wounds. Talk about being tone deaf.

Zilber posted a bunch of pictures from the City of Light on his Facebook page. The former judge, who owns a women’s boutique in downtown South Miami called At Ease on Sunset, was there for fashion week.

Sometime between croissants and glasses of wine, however, he had time to write the letter where he congratulates Sabina Covo, who won the special election, and cries foul about the negativity in the campaigns.

“I was not the preferred candidate, but I did have the opportunity to meet so many of my neighbors, learning about their lives and aspirations. This drew me closer to my community,” Zilber said. “For all those reasons, I emerge with no personal regrets.

“However, I do lament the divisiveness and negativity that pervades our politics.”

This is just too rich. He laments the negativity?

Wasn’t Zilber’s campaign responsible for most of the divisiveness and negative advertising? He’s the one who amassed more than half a million dollars between his campaign and his PAC. He was endorsed by Commissioners Alex Diaz de la Portilla and Joe Carollo, both of whom are famous for waging nuclear negative campaigns.

“As I spoke with many voters, distrust in government and a sense of ‘us vs. them’ was consistent. Negativity begets more negativity. There is a pull to divide rather than unite. Elevating our political discourse and finding common ground will take time,” he said.

Wonder if he means eight months, which is when the next election is.

“My fervent hope is that together we can build a bright future where collaboration trumps cynicism.”

It does sound like he might run again. The whole letter sounds like a campaign speech.

So, District 2 has not gotten rid of Zilber. They are going to have to stay vigilant if they want to stay ABZ.
