A ragtag group of attorneys and former elected officials have formed a committee to elect none other than one-time State Rep. and former Miami-Dade School Board Member Renier Diaz de la Portilla.
And it’s just…meh.
The committee is chaired by attorney Bill Reily, who just got his client Centner Academy everything they wanted before the Miami commission then went on vacay with Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, who is also on the committee. This arrangement was probably part of the deal.

But those two — and former State Rep. Jose Felix “Pepi” Diaz — are the highlight of the group. Because everyone else is sort of B-list.
Nancy Brown is a CPA who handles ADLP’s shady political action committee Proven Leadership For Miami-Dade county. She is campaign treasurer, of course. Carlos Lago is a busy lobbyist, the brother of Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago and a lunch mate at Morton’s for the slap heard around the county. Attorney Tom Cobitz represented Hialeah boletero Sergio Robaina, the former mayor’s uncle, in an absentee ballot fraud case.
It’s not a gang. It’s a club!
Other members include former Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and former Hialeah Councilman Oscar de la Rosa, stepson to Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo, and Marcus Lapciuc, former chair of the Jackson Public Health Trust.
The chair’s sister, Bonnie Riley, fills in the gaps.

Missing in action and brillando por su ausencia is the oldests of the DLP brothers, flagship Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, the former state senator.
Now why on Earth wouldn’t the eldest DLP be on the committee to elect Baby DLP to the bench?
That speaks louder than any endorsement.
