He’s still got two years on his term, but an anonymous flyer denouncing Miami Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla and warning residents about him is circulating in District 1.

In Spanish, it says Diaz de la Portilla is a career politician they can’t trust.

“For more than 35 years, he has been elected to local political office and nobody can identify a single project that he has brought to benefit this community,” the barrage begins.

“He always raises lots of money from big special interests, which he always serves, and with that money sends much lying propaganda against his opponents and at times is successful in fooling the voters, but when he is elected, he doesn’t address our needs.”

The letter brings up the ghost Omni CRA employee he hired to run his political and personal errands, the missing COVID19 relief gift cards and his attendance at an illegal nightclub in Allapattah, where he reportedly shoved a code compliance inspector who was injured.

Talk about kicking a man when he’s down.

Who is behind the flyer?

There is no disclaimer, but las malas lenguas say that Commissioner Joe Carollo, who has in recent months been fighting openly with ADLP, is the author. The language and syntax seems to support that theory. Maybe Marjorie Carollo edited it.

Carollo did not return a call and texts to his cell phone, but it has to be him.

I mean, who else would talk about the mameys and avocados that Diaz de la Portilla would distribute when he was campaigning?
