Seniors are getting meals delivered at home. Food bank drive-throughs, turning political, have become regular and frequent in the face of the COVID19 pandemic that has caused many people to lose work and/or pay.

But what about pets? Dog food can get expensive.

To help provide relief for Miami-Dade’s pet owners, the county Animal Services Department will host its fourth drive-thru pet food bank from 9 a.m. to noon (or while supplies last) on Thursday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at Lake Stevens Park, 18350 NW 52nd Ave, Miami Gardens. Ladra didn’t know about the first three pet food banks (photos from the Channel 4 coverage of one in April), so this post is to spread the word.

The distribution is made possible with dog and cat food donations from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as part of the national ASPCA COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Initiative.

“We continue to see the need in our community and receive calls from residents feeling the financial stress, asking for pet food to help feed their furry family members,” said Animal Services Director Alex Muñoz, in a press release. “It may seem like a small thing, but many pet owners have expressed just how much it means to them to get some help putting food in their pets’ bowls.”

To ensure adherence to social distancing rules and for the safety and protection of event participants and staff, the pet food distribution event is drive-thru only and exclusively for Miami-Dade County pet owners.  Walk-ups will not be accepted at the event. We ask residents to please wear masks or face coverings at all times during this event.
