The “Cafecito con Elizabeth Warren” Saturday is really with Elizabeth Warren’s people, which now includes State Rep. Cindy Polo, who is facing a challenge of her own after her freshman term.
Polo, who joined a group of female lawmakers that endorsed Warren last month, will be the keynote speaker at the Wynwood event at Gramp’s. Also speaking: former Miami-Dade Democratic Party executive director Juan Cuba, Obama White House staffer Patrick Hidalgo and writer/activist Ana Sofia Pelaez.
“Come fuel up with some cafecito, ask and learn about Elizabeth’s plans, and find out how to get involved in the fight,” reads the emailed invitation.
This is one of several statewide events intended to improve Warren’s numbers before the March 17 primary. The most recent St. Pete Polls results show Liz would come in fifth, which is practically last, behind Bernie Sanders with 13% and Pete Buttigieg, with 8%. That means she only beat Amy Klobuchar and Tom Styer, who shouldn’t be there.

The leaders in Florida, according to that poll, are Vice President Joe Biden with 34% and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg with 29%, who may have lost points after his lackluster performance at the latest debate, where Biden was better. But Bloomberg is still the number one media buyer in Florida and is arguably the candidate who has spent the most in the Spanish-speaking market.
The event Saturday at Gramp’s, 176 NW 24th St., begins at 3:05 p.m., just to be cute.
It’s at least the second “Cafecito con Warren” event in Miami after one earlier this month at Mr. Wright’s Gold Digger Saloon with, Eleazar Melendez, one time candidate for City of Miami Commission, local activist Gustavo Perez, and Claudia Sebastiani, steering committee member of the Miami Climate Alliance. They also opened an office earlier this month at 5084 Biscayne Blvd., where the doors are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Tomas Alcala , statewide Latino outreach director for the Warren campaign, said this could be the last cafecito — aaayyyyyyy — but that there would be other events leading to the primary, including a happy hour next week.
Polo, who represents Miami Lakes and Miramar, endorsed Warren last month.
“As a proud daughter of Hialeah, I know far too well what it means to have elected officials who don’t work for their communities but instead do the bidding of special interests,” Polo told Ladra.
“This election year, we deserve more than a president who claims to understand the needs of the people of our country. We need someone who as lived them and stood up and fought to address them.”
