Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez will give us a sneak preview of his State of the County address Monday when he speaks at the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations meeting.
The rare face-to-face also comes on the heels of his administration’s controversial announcement that the county is considering a terminal for a ferry to Cuba on the last piece of waterfront property at PortMiami. He has already started to back pedal from the push back, but even without that touchy subject, this meeting was gonna be tough.
The mayor is a brave man. Because this is not his friendliest crowd. I remember the public spankings he’s gotten there in the past.

These are the same people who hate MDX and who he ignored for months, refusing to meet with them in 2013 before the tolls increased. These are the same people who may have paid more for their special taxing districts than they were supposed to. These are the same people who voted for the Pet’s Trust Initiative that he refuses to fund.
In fact, the president of the KFHA is Michael Rosenberg, who is also the president and founder of the Pet’s Trust. He’s formed a PAC and has already vowed his support to the only mayoral challenger so far, Miami-Dade School Board Raquel Regalado. And Rosenberg doesn’t miss a chance to point out the mayor’s double standards with referendums and remind Gimenez that he was all for citizen initiatives — before the Pet’s Trust passed by 65% of the voters, and then he suddenly shifted his position.
But Rosenberg promised he would not hound the mayor on Monday because the KFHA presidency is his “other hat.”
Don’t worry, dear readers, others likely will. And Ladra plans to be there.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Kendall Village Center ‘Civic Pavilion, 8625 SW 124 Avenue (across from Regal Cinema).
