Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine has become such a caricature, that there are now at least four parody profiles of him in social media. Maybe more by the time you read this, the way they are proliferating every day.
The jokes started on twitter with Mayor Levine’s Ego @MayorEgo, which posts the alternative (read: funny and, often, true) captions to the mayor’s many self-promotional photos. Oh, and sometimes uses Photoshop to make a point.
But now there are at least two new twitter handles — Fire Levine @firelevine and Defeat Mayor Levine @DefeatLevine — and a Facebook page called Clean Up Miami Beach City Hall, which is mostly about Levine but can be used after the election for his co-horts, which will hopefully be limited to Commissioner Joy Malakoff.
Let me say now for the record, because people always ask, that no, Ladra has absolutely nothing to do with these. While they are awfully creative and I’m sorta jealous and wish I had thought of them, Ladra also likes to get credit for her every word she barks. Besides, I don’t know how to use Photoshop. Also, I have no idea who is behind any of them or all of them, maybe. Somebody who knows Photoshop well.
There sure is a wealth of material for them. Even before the flooding started again, though Levine’s glitzy commercials say its fixed, he had the trouble with the shady PAC he shook down vendors and developers for and the bloated staff that includes a brand manager and a $90,000-a-year driver who also serves a bodyguard. Then there were the diplomat lessons and the Spanish classes in Spain, the envelope of blackmail dropped off at his opponent’s office. And now there’s Rebecca Towers.

I’m certain that next week twitter will be abuzz with something new.
Fire Levine states “Miami Beach is sinking in flood water and sinking in corruption. Philip Levine is running City Hall like a drunken sailor. Its time to send him back home.”
Defeat Levine purports to speak “for all the disgruntleds and about-to-be-displaced senior citizens who have put up with Mayor Levine’s reign of corruption long enough.”
They are worth following if just for the laughs. But even then, they are right at least half the time.
