It was a busy week for Miami-Dade Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, who was at all the parades, a Catalyst Miami event, the transportation summit and the opening of her office in Homestead. But it was a busy week on Instagram, twitter and Facebook, as electeds took part in MLK events, a rodeo, two parades — well, three if you count the Miss Universe contest.
Congresswoman Fedrica Wilson, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami-Dade Commissioners Jean Monestime, Audrey Edmonson, Daniella Levine Cava and Barbara Jordan, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and daughter, School Board Member Raquel Regalado were among those who attended the 5000 Role Models of Excellence MLK breakfast.
Levine Cava was also at the Homestead to the PhiCol Community Center to meet with Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter, Homestead Council members Patricia Faircough, Elvis Maldonado and Jimmie Williams, as well as Sens. Dwight Bullard and Anitere Flores and Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis Moss.
And she opened her commission office in Homestead, with guest appearances from Mayor Porter and Commissioners Judy Waldman and Patricia Fairclough.

Members of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce were in Tallahassee Tuesday, speaking to members of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation. Among them, Sen. Anitere Flores and State Rep. Jose Felix “Selfie King” Diaz, the chair and vice chair of the delegation, and Sen. Rene Garcia. they also met with Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, who spoke to them about investing in education, tax cuts and keeping college affordable.
Democrats and Republicans can get together and have some laughs. Just look at Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine (super blue) and Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen having a good time as they talked Wednesday about the city’s centennial celebration and how to improve services for residents. Ros-Lehtinen, by the way, loves the Instagram collage.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Heyman introduced the Behavioral Health and Justice forum at the National Association of Counties conference in South Carolina. Commissioner Audrey Edmonson was also there (and took this picture).
Homestead had a second parade Saturday with their annual rodeo and riding in it were all the city electeds, including Councilmembers Elvis Maldonado, front, and Judy Waldman in the car in back.
And on Sunday, before Miss Colombia took the intergalactic crown, some of the 305’s most pompous electeds posed on the red carpet and took selfies of their journey to the beauty pageant at FIU. They included Doral Mayor Luigi Boria and Council members Pete Cabrera, Sandra Ruiz and Ana Maria Rodriguez, Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and our mayor, Gimenez, who we all know loves the pageantry.
