Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation Director Alex Dominguez is leaving the post he’s had for almost six years and going to AT&T as the new Regional Director of External Affairs for City of Miami, South Miami-Dade County and Monroe County.
“In his position, Mr. Dominguez will handle legislative and community affairs initiatives. He will also assist with new technology deployment and infrastructure investment by collaborating with community leaders, legislators and business leaders,” the press release stated.
Translation: He’s a lobbyist.
“AT&T has long been on the cutting edge of communications and delivering the technologies, products and services that connect our communities to what matters most to them,” Dominguez said in the statement. “I’m looking forward to carrying on this tradition of excellence in South Florida.”
AT&T also has a little history in tapping our young 305 political talent for their needs. After he helped Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez win the recall race of 2011, JC Flores joined AT&T’s lobbying team.
Ladra wonders if Dominguez is joining him or replacing him.
Dominguez has also served as the Director of Fundraising and Membership Development for the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba, the South Florida Political Coordinator for the Florida Association of Realtors, was a Florida House Legislative Fellow, and has worked on various political campaigns.
What the statement did not say is that he also plays a mean drum set. Ladra got to hear him rock it out during one of the parties at Dade Days in Tallahassee a couple of years ago (imagine Rush Week in college).
That might be a good skill to have when he is asked to drum up government support for the company’s agenda.
