Forget the Kardashians. South Florida is seeming more and more like a playground for political celebrities, too, these days.election2014

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been to South Florida so much lately, real estate agents are angling for 15 minutes with him so they can sell him a weekend condo.

This week, Scott returns with Lt. Gov. and local boy done good Carlos Lopez-Cantera and Attorney General Pam Bondi — who I bet gets her own reality TV show — for a honk and wave at the La Carreta on 87th Avenue and Bird Road.

Earlier this month, the 305 was invaded by both former Gov. Jeb Bush and former Republican GOP nominee Mitt Romney on campaign stops for Scott and Republican congressional candidate Carlos Curbelo, respectively. In February, Congressman Joaquin Castro of Texas, a rising Latino star on a national level, came to help Democrat incumbent Congressman Joe Garcia.

Now, the Dems have upped the ante with their biggest celebrity of all, the Elvis of the Democratic Party: former President Bill Clinton will use his rock-and-roll status Friday to help elevate former Gov. Charlie Crist, who wants his old job back and who could use this little lift with the general election two months off.

Mitt Romney visited a bakery in West Dade with congressional candidate Carlos Curbelo, left.

Clinton will lead a rally for Crist at 6 p.m. at the J.W. Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Miami. Members of the public who wants to go must RSVP at www.charliecrist.com. I expect security to be at an all time high.

Bill. Mitt. Rick. Pam. What do all these have in common? Miami. Which indicates how important South Florida is going to be in the governor’s race and in the Congressional race in District 26, which is being watched nationally and has been considered one of the more flippable seats this midterm year.

Get used to these political celebrity drive bys, good people of the 305. There’ll be at least a dozen more between now and November. Because South Florida will be a highly fought battleground for both the governor’s race, one of the most important governor’s contests in the country, and the congressional war.

Let’s start a draft for who you think will or should come stump next for the Republicans and for the Democrats. I nominate George Clooney for the blue team and Ted Cruz for the red.

Your turn.
