Miami Beach Mayor Philip “Fix It” Levine wants more people to like him.
Levine reached out to residents via one of his regular email blasts to ask them to follow him on twitter and Instagram and like him on Facebook and YouTube.
“I began using Facebook and Twitter to send updates during my campaign for mayor last year,” Levine wrote.
“Since being elected, I have continued to use social media to communicate directly with the people of Miami Beach.”
And so he has. Levine, who has never really stopped campaigning since winning the mayoral election last year, already has 7,019 likes on his Facebook page and 1,342 followers on twitter. Make that 1,343.
“We strive to post timely updates and provide information about what’s happening around the city, as well as to spread our positive message about moving Miami Beach forward and making the city one that works for its people,” Levine wrote in his email, inviting folks to “join our social media movement.”
If you do, you find out about what he’s doing, like checking out the Miami New Construction Show at the Miami beach convention Center and get updates from his ride along with code compliance and see photos of his ice bucket challenge with Mayor Carlos Gimenez Friday afternoon. Levine dressed for it. Gimenez did not.
Anyway, I like the idea of a mayor live on twitter and vine and facebook and whatever all the time, using what Ladra will now call polisocial media.
Levine, who doesn’t like to be questioned in person and has not returned one single call from Ladra, at least answers questions to those who ask on his twitter handle.
“I pay for my own travel. Thank you! @DiddyORTIZ,” the mayor answered to Ortiz’s question: “@MayorLevine why are you wasting Taxpayer money on a trip to #Israel?”
So, maybe this is a good thing. Maybe Ladra has a way to reach Levine now.
