No sooner had the results been posted online that U.S. Congressman Joe Garcia came out swinging in the general election race against Miami-Dade School Board Member Carlos “Crybaby” Curbelo, who won a mandate from Republican voters Tuesday when he got 47% of the nod for the nomination.
Less than two hours after precincts closed, Garcia’s people issued a press release stating that he was ready to face the lobbyist (which sorta gives you a hint about where they’re going, don’t it?).
“This election is about choosing a representative who will put our South Florida values first. Someone who will fight for the middle class. For a better economy and for better jobs. We don’t need someone like Carlos Curbelo — a lobbyist who refuses to disclose his big money clients and is only looking out for his own political interests,” Garcia said in the statement.

You’re welcome, Congressman, even though he never thanked me when we ran into each other at the Daniella Levine Cava victory party for bringing this to light and giving his campaign, on a silver platter, the dirty laundry that could keep Curbelo from taking what national political experts say is one of the country’s most flippable seats.
Truth be told, Garcia’s camp had been anticipating a Curbelo win from a while back. He had the money for the flurry of media buys and the establishment, after all, and, it seems from the results, a better absentee ballot machinery.
Garcia’s people were ready to go.
This morning, not much more than 12 hours after Curbelo won, Garcia will have a “Cafecito with Joe” event — which hits both outreach and press purposes — at the Ankarr European Pastry Shop on Kendall Drive. And you just know that was planned last week!
“The visit will serve as an opportunity for residents of Florida’s 26th congressional district to meet with Representative Garcia and discuss the issues that matter to South Florida,” a press release states.
Lucky residents will get Garcia to serve them their cortadito — el mío oscuro, por favor — while he highlights “his commitment to putting South Florida first in Congress and discusses the clear contrasts between his positions and those of his Republican opponent.”

Garcia practically couldn’t wait!
Of course, Ladra can’t wait to hear all the jokes comparing the Curbelo event with Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney at Vicky Bakery last week to this decidedly more swanky affair at Ankarr, which is a more upscale Spanish bakery.
Middle class, eh? Pffft.
