If you live in District 8 and you missed Miami-Dade Commissioner Lynda Bell or her campaign workers coming by to knock on your house, you might have gotten this door hanger with photos of the commission vice chair in action.
Bell at a groundbreaking, golden shovel in hand. Yay. Bell hugging a senior cittizen. Awwww. Bell high-fiving some educators at a back-to-school event last August. Woo-hoo.
You might also get the impression that she is being supported by teachers’ union, United Teachers of Dade.
But that would be the wrong impression. UTD has endorsed challenger Daniella Levine Cava.
The photo was of an event last year where Bell distributed back packs, much like she is set to do again next week. She held a UTD fan and the logo is plainly visible in the campaign lit pic.
“We were collaborating on the back to school event,” said UTD government affairs director Karyn Cunningham, who is also a candidate for Palmetto Bay Council.
Cunningham, being all diplomatic, wouldn’t comment further on whether or not they’re pissed that Bell would try to misuse the innocent photo to fool folks into believing the teachers backed the incumbent.
“I have no idea if that was her intention,” she told Ladra.
Yeah, she’s right. Maybe it was one of the best pictures she had in her arsenal of photo ops.
At least she doesn’t outright lie like one judicial candidate (read: Veronica “Little Miss Ultra” Diaz) and one congressional candidate (read: Lorenzo Palomares Starbuck) who claimed endorsements they don’t really have.
