If we needed any proof that Bryan Avila, vice chair of the Miami-Dade Republican Party, was the hand-picked successor to State Rep. Eddy Gonzalez, who is termed out of that office and will seek another office countywide, just drop by the joint fundraiser that Gonzalez will have with Avila and State Rep. Manny Diaz, Jr., who is not termed out and who basically owes Gonzalez and his absentee ballot machine his political career.
The two have invited friends and supporters to meet Avila at an event at Hialeah Park — where else? — next Thursday. Guests will be encouraged to write not one, not two, but three campaign checks — at least, not counting PACs.

Of course they didn’t invite Ladra. Someone slipped this to me. But I’m going to try to go and see who else in the GOP is backing Avila, even though there are at least two other Republicans running: Alex Anthony and Alberto Amador.
Last week, the Miami-Dade Democratic Party threw their own candidate into the race: Mariano Corcilli joins six others in what Ladra calls the Fat Chance Crew but what the Dade Dems call the “No More Free Rides” campaign against GOP incumbents.
The trifecta fundraiser for Avila, Gonzalez and Diaz is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Turf Club on the third floor of Hialeah Park, 2200 East 4th Ave.
