Doral Councilwoman Bettina Rodriguez-Aguilera, hospitalized earlier this month for an intestinal obstruction, was released from the hospital last week — and immediately went back to her whirlwind schedule.
Bettina was released on Monday.
On Tuesday, she held a shovel for the ground breaking of the Downtown Doral Charter School with her colleagues from the city. The school will be administered by the Miami-Dade County Public School board. When completed, 800 pre-K through 5th grade students will receive instruction in English, with the additional option of Spanish and Portuguese.
On Wednesday, she was at the council meeting.
On Thursday, she was at El Arepazo to demand freedom for the Venezuelan people alongside Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson and finding time, of course, to badmouth Mayor Doral Mayor Luigi Boria in connection with an IRS investigation exposed last week by Univision investigative reporter Gerardo Reyes and Boria’s long suspected ties to the Venezuelan regime.
It seems as if the doctor did not give her orders to rest.
Rodriguez was hospitalized Wednesday after she left the council meeting in excruciating pain — well, more pain than the usual council meetings inflict. A scan at her doctor’s office showed that she had an intestinal blockage and needed to go to the hospital. She was admitted at Baptist right away, where they found her liver had swollen up and her enzymes were through the roof.
Luckily for Bettina no knives were involved in the “five painful days” at the hospital. The blockage was treated with a tube.
But instead something like a tube running through her slow her down, Bettina went on Facebook and reminded people of rally in support of the Venezuelan opposition. She broadcast her radio show Saturday, Conversando Con Bettina on Actualidad Radio (1020 AM), from her hospital bed.
Her kids had to take her laptop and ipad away from her so she wouldn’t work. She kept up on social media only via her phone.
She also lost about 10 pounds and was beaming in the photos she posted last week. The councilwoman will likely slim down some more because she will be on a liquid diet for a while.
“There’s always a silver lining,” she said.
