State Rep. Jose Felix “One More Pepe” Diaz was already quite the connoisseur and promoter of the selfie genre — posting photo pics of himself on instagram and twitter on a regular basis.
He almost always lands some image on Political Cortadito’s Pics of the Weeks.
But Diaz hit the big time on Tuesday when he tweeted a selfie ala Ellen DeGeneres’ famous and most retweeted selfie ever, which she took at the Oscars Sunday.
Rather than Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence, or Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper, however, Diaz had the slightly less appealing Gov. Rick Scott and Sen. Anitere Flores (R-Kendall) in his shot. That’s also Rep. Tom Goodson (R-Titusville) and Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Fort Myerin) the back, photo-bombing.
And is it me, or does the smiles in the state capitol have a little less gleam? The faces, a little less glee?
Still, Ladra believes this selfie is the most exciting thing to come out of Tallahassee on Day One of the legislative session. And, yes, that includes the governor’s State of the State address.
That’s probably why it was retweeted 115 times by early this morning. And, yes, Ladra was one of those. Maybe it’s not close to the 3.2 million retweets so far for Ellen, but she has 27.5 million followers on twitter, while Diaz has just over 3,000. Math is not my strong suit, but proportionately it’s a wash, right?
Either way, Ladra may have to change Diaz’s nickname to “Selfie King.”
