Newly-elected Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Grieco brandished tools from the dais when he told the hundreds of supporters who went to his swearing-in last week that he was going to take the door to his City Hall office off its hinges.
Well, that’s one promise kept so far.
The door came off Tuesday, leaving his office open to anyone who walks by.
“Call it symbolic, but this move stands for a new era of transparency in city government,” Grieco posted on his facebook page with this picture of himself giving the thumbs up (and just check out those chancletas!).
“No, we will not be conducting similar renovations at my law firm,” he added.
He acts like it’s his original concept but Ladra thinks he got it from Jose “Pepe” Cancio — who reminded us all about it when he ran for mayor in 2011 — when was appointed to the county commission to fill out the term left by former Commissioner Miriam Alonso when she removed after being charged with corruption charges in 2002.
But it’s as good an idea today as it was back then. Let’s just hope that door stays open.
